This week VelaClip became much more practical for real sermon projects: you can split, move and reorder clips with durable undo, long timelines stay snappy, background processing recovers more cleanly, and the Mac app can update itself while licensing works the way it should.

Performance
Faster editing on long, heavily cut projects
Instead of mounting every clip, waveform and filmstrip at once, VelaClip only renders what is near the visible portion of the timeline. Selected and actively dragged clips stay available even when they scroll out of view, which cuts lag and memory use on sermons with many cuts.
Reliability
Background processing that recovers instead of starting over
Repeated submissions attach to an existing job rather than spawning duplicates. Failed stages record what went wrong and whether a retry is safe, completed work is preserved, and transient network errors retry while hard validation failures stop early.
Fixed
Fewer false “already activated” license errors
Some activations were wrongly treated as seat-limit violations when a network request was blocked. The Mac app now sends a clear identity, shows seat-limit messaging only for the real seat-limit response, and reports more accurate licensing errors.

The activation screen now uses the official VelaClip brand lockup, and desktop licensing connects to the real production activation service with the current one-computer seat model.

Desktop activation now validates against website-managed license and billing records, including activated devices and Stripe-synchronized subscription tiers, instead of treating every request as the same plan.

Laying the groundwork for a smarter editor

This week's work was almost entirely under the hood. Nothing changes yet in how VelaClip looks or feels to use, but it sets up two things every future editing feature will build on.

One shared way of describing an edit
Cuts, captions, hooks, reframing, motion, audio, branding and export choices are moving toward a single, versioned plan instead of being scattered across separate parts of the editor. You won't see this directly. It's what makes future features safer to build and less likely to conflict with each other.

VelaClip now has one place that keeps track of which local AI models and hardware capabilities are available on your Mac, so different AI features can share the same fallback logic instead of each guessing on its own.

An editor that remembers your work, and starts to develop taste

This week is where VelaClip stopped feeling like a prototype. Edits now survive a reload, the camera work feels more intentional, and the app began learning each church's preferences instead of applying one fixed look to everyone.

Changes to a clip are persisted as you work, so editing no longer depends on rendering first. A short debounce keeps saves quiet while protecting your progress.

VelaClip can assign pans, holds and pushes based on what is happening in a clip instead of constantly moving the frame for the sake of movement.

Cleaner sound, safer under the hood

This week's work focused on the parts of VelaClip you don't see directly: the audio a clip carries, the background a speaker sits in front of, and how safely the local app talks to itself.

Audio processing grew beyond basic transcription with tools for reducing noise, improving difficult sermon recordings and producing more consistent final loudness.
